I have a 92-F150, Just replaced the brake pads with Metallic Pads. It was the life Time Warranty that pulled me in. After about 50 miles, whenever the brakes are warm, they make the most awful grinding, metal on metal sound I have ever heard. I pulled the wheels tonight, took everything apart, it all looked good, relubed, used the non-squeek stuff, cleaned everything, test drove, and no difference. Talked to guy at the parts store, and he said on the metallic pads you have to "burn them in", to go about 30mph and hit the brakes hard to break them in. Could this be accurate? Is this just how metallic brake pads sound, and in time will they get better? I am considering going to a softer cheaper pad. Thanks for any help.
Well, that's what happens with metallic pads on relatively light weight vehicles. Unless you're hauling a 10K lb. trailer everyday, they're overkill.
Go with a semi-metallic pad. They're softer and will provide a marginally better friction coefficient.
BTW, you probabaly wanna have the glaze ground off the rotors that the metallic pads most likely put on there. Otherwise, any new pads you get are gonna make noise too.

They usually cost twice as much as the regular pads (at least at Autozone) and they chew up your rotors a lot more then regular pads. I rather replace 3 sets of cheap $10 pads ($30) then replace two $30 rotors ($60), along with the bearings and seals for the rotors. Very hard to remove a bearing race from a rotor without damaging it to transfer to another rotor.
imo

I concur with the others, not likely, and it is overkill for most people and most 1/2 ton trucks.
