302 fuel pump question

I have a fuel pump that has 2 lines going to the gas tank. my tank only has one line to the fuel pump. I capped the second line and now there's pressure forcing fuel out of my filler tube. has anyone heard of this happening, and would replacing the pump with a single line pump solve the problem?

Sounds like the second line on your pump is a return line. It would return excess fuel that isn't being burned by your engine, back to your tank. It's weird that it's forcing gas out your filler tube though. I'm taking it, that by filler tube, you mean where you put gas in the tank. (duh steve) What year truck do you have? I'm assuming it has a mechanical fuel pump? It doesn't make sense, that your fuel tank is being pressurized. By the way. The best car I ever owned, was a 69 Charger R/T. The body was nearly mint, but the engine needed a rebuild, when I sold it for $150 back in 84. Boy do I kick myself in the a$$ now. Wish I still had it.

You didn't state the year of your vehicle. Two lines to gas tank. One is your fuel line to the fuel pump. The other is the tank vent; it is usually connected to a vapor canister under the hood and fumes are burnt in engine. If no canister it should be vented to air; but this is not environmentally friendly. Pressure may develop in tank and with no vent in gas caps any more could collapse tank or just cause engine to stop as a vacuum is pulled on tank. Just my guesses; but I would not block it off.
