hello i need a new carburator for my 82 f-250 inline 6. the thing is... I have a smaller inline out of a 77 maverick. it looks similar to mine but is smaller. does anyone know if I can swap out the carbs? i would love to use this one instead of paying 250 for a new one.
I am assuming that you have a 300 that needs a carb. The carb on most of the 200/250 engines was a 2bbl, but it depends on the years. If it is a 1bbl that is on the "spare" motor, the bolt pattern should be the same. Just get a good rebuild kit and go for it.
You need to be all sorts of careful -- your 82 may have a feedback carb that will screw things up royally with a swap. I'd find out for sure which carb you have, get a rebuild kit and a good carb book and for $40 and some labor (after which you will be much smarter), you will have a like new carb.
Or if something is truly shot on the carb (like the throttle pin hole is wallowed out from years of pumping the gas), then ID it properly and get a rebuilt off of autozone or somewhere. That's about $120. Beware -- often rebuilt carbs from the chains are crap -- but they have a return policy and warranty. Just keep trying till you get one you can make work. You will likely have to do some adjusting, as the rebuilt carbs are seldom correctly set.
I think you will have a Carter YFA feedback carb, but I am not certain. The maverick has maybe a 240 or 250. It might bolt up, but even if it does, the venturi is the wrong size. I wouldn't try that.
thanks for the replies guys...it looks like I might go with the reman from ABC auto parts. I priced one and it was like 145...thanks alot for the info!!!!
