2004 ford escape

JUST PURCHASED A 2004 FORD ESCAPE LINMITED AND IT HAS 1004 MILES ON IT IT GETS 13-16 MPG 16 BEING THE HIGHWAY I AM SURE IT NEEDS TO BE BROKE IN BUT THIS IS NOT CLOSE TO RATING.

I would start tracking my gas mileage and saving gas receipts so that you can go back to the dealership and show them documented proof that there is a problem.

Dude! That is even worse than my pitiful mpg! I'd give in another 1,000 miles and then take it in. I have 7,000 and I'm getting about 17 in town. Let me know what happens.

You didn't state where you reside, some of the winter gas in the northern states really impacts the mpg. I've got a 2002 V6 FWD (non-4x4) and average 24+mpg. Worst has been around 22mpg but I drive mostly highway. Even my F150 with the 4.6 V8 got 17-18mpg.
