Help decode a VIN?...and more.
88 F150 with 5.8L, VERY little rust/dents and nice interior.
I have alot of questions but i'll hold off till i get aquainted with this board and the truck itself.
VIN# 2FTEF14H4JCA11023
I know it's a 5.8, would this year be a Modified or Windsor?
I'v also been told that a Modified is actually a 400 block...so does that mean a 460 motor would drop in to the existing motor mounts? And work with the C6 in it? (I believe it's a C6 since it does not have the OD position...see, i'v been searching!)
Got this truck real cheap because it has a noise in the rear axle...i diagnosed a broken R&P within minutes. The rear looks like an 8.8 to me,i have a Dana 61 from an 85 F250HD...would the Dana bolt in? I realize i need to match ratio's front to rear.
One more quik question, this motor has blow-by...common? Does it necessarily mean rings are shot?
Appreciate any help guy's, I'm a Jeeper who just bought his first Ford......
Awesome site you guys have here. He was correct about the VIN Number. I ran it with the 2 and it came up.
VIN: 2FTEF14H4JCA11023
Year/Make/Model: 1988 FORD F150
Engine Type: 5.8L V8 EFI HD
Manufactured In: CANADA
That is about all the info I can get off a VIN. Build tags is where you get most of your info.
OK, so it's not a Modified block. I'd have to visit L&L or get factory components for a 460 swap if i were to go that way. Then i'm sure i'd need to address the suspension for the added weight...and drivetrane for the additional power.
Havent pulled the diff cover as yet but i'm sure it's a broken ring gear or pinion...or both. Drop the trans into drive and it jerks severely and intermittenly. Drop it into reverse and it just makes a terrible clunking. Less resistance on the gears coast side...
Found a few 8.8's locally at a u-pull. I'll go back, check the ratio and grab one for replacement. I assume the ABS sensor on rear axle is the same thru the years and i wont come across any "gotcha's"?
Now, anything i need to be aware of since this truck was assembled in Canada? Emissions are the same as used in the states etc?
Thanks for taking the time with a newbie guys!
