I bought my SCrew about 2 months ago off the lot with the 6 dash cd player stereo not the audiofile. All and all I'm not impressed and have wanted to change it out for the awsome Audiofile system. The problem that I'm having exists with the dealer changing out my stereo for the audiofile. So my question is has anyone done this and if so how much, and what does the switch consist of? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Don't waste your time with going through the dealer. Go to your local car audio shop and have them set you up. The audiophile sounds really good but you can get better..
I did think of that but I did the whole aftermarket car audio scene and I really didn't have a lot of luck with the components that I bought eventhought they were top of the line. Not to mention that when I bitched about them they told me waranty was up. Thats why I decided to go through the dealer to get the better waranty.
anything aftermarket is better than the audiophile. the dealer will charge you, im guesing, about $700+ to install that system. for that money you could get something good aftermarket.
Ive only seen this possible with brand new purchases. Even then the dealer has to put in a request for an upgrade thru the Ford radio center and you pay the difference. And that was only with head units. The audiophile system likely has aux amplification and upgraded speakers and wiring looms to integrate it all.
Sorry to say its just far more economical to buy the vehicle equipped with what you wanted to begin with. After the sale is always the costliest time to change your mind.
The audiophile system was the ONLY reason I had to order my truck. The dealer had exactly the truck I wanted except for this. They checked with about 4 different people at the dealership and also ford about installing audiophile at the dealership. While it is possible, it is not worth it the head unit has to be changed, speakers, wiring harness, mounting the sub and amp under the rear seat, etc, etc. And like someone said since you've already bought your truck the dealer will most likely charge you out the ying-yang to do this. Economically you'd be much better off going aftermarket IMO.
I disagree that ANYTHING aftermarket is better than the Audiophile. These are not Ford produced radios. Pioneer makes the head and the speakers are Boston Accoustic. These are top rated systems. I'm not saying you can't get better by going aftermarket, but for a stock system, you can't beat the Audiophile. I love mine. But I agree that trying to get it installed after the fact would not be very cost-effective. Sorry.
As a guy that only goes with aftermarket systems, I was impressed by the Audiophile setup. The last 'Audiophile' from Ford I had was in my 00 Lincoln LS. A $1200 option. What a worthless option!! The new F-150, however, truely deserves the title. The only issue is it is a tad underpowered and can't keep the music crystal clear at high volumes, and the sub doesn't have the low-end or punch of a 10" JL Audio (nothing does, really). But, I think my demanding ears can live with it, and for the first time in many, many years I don't have to dump 1,000's of hard-earn dollars into an aftermarket setup.
Now, if I were to buy a truck w/o the Audiophile, I wouldn't EVEN CONSIDER going to a dealer to get it put in. Go to your local high-end shop and find what suits you best... you'll be much better off. Some more $$, but you'll end up with a system that would crush the Audiophile...

Have you actually HEARD the Audiophile system? It's nothing short of incredible for a factory system. I'm sure SOMEONE, with endless amounts of money, can do better. But not by much. Besides, do you really want to risk blowing the factory warranty because some kid wired it wrong? Just for a few more watts of power?
Then again, maybe I'm just an old fart, but having the ability to blow the windows out of a vehicle by cranking up the bass totally escapes me. That is NOT necessarily the determining factor in great automotive sound.
I just bought the ford part for the amp and sub, put a power boost behind the factory 6 dic in dash, and it sounded great. After awhile i din't like the fact that there was no midrange sound so i replaced all the speakers with some Pioneer speakers, around 80 a shot, i got all six replaced, with the factory head boosted it sounds great. I even put in an XM radio in the ash tray. For all those that don't want some kid to put there stuff in, i had all my work done at Best Buy and they did a great job, so perhaps you should check them out before being really old and guess that young "kids" can't do it well enough for your high class ears.
I love My Audiophile system. It's the only thing that keeps me sane while driving my $43000 VIBRATOR.If you crank the base and the volume high enough the vibration matches the rest of the truck . I had a Z71 with a $1900 system in it before this 04 and there is NO comparison.
I would like to know a little more about it though, as in how many watts and size & make of the amp & speakers. I've heard conflicting reports. Anyone know for sure?
Well I have had my Truck(04 FX4 Crew) for 2 days and I am impressed with the radio system. The way I look at it I dont have to worry to much about thieves breaking in to take a "Factory Radio". HAHAHAH
I too have only had my truck for 4 days and I love the audiophile. My wife's 2004 explorer has the Audiophile system and it's not as impressive. It's close, but quite the same. I suppose filling an explorer with bass from a 6.5" sub is harder than a super cab F150.
