Attempted theft, damaged column
so some lowlife decides he is going to try to steal my Bronco last night from directly in front of Autozone. We walk out and he is hacking into the column. We convinced him it wasn't such a good idea and sent him on his way...Unfortunately my ignition is trashed, my column is all screwed up, the shift indicator is broken,...
I am planning on customizing the interior and have found Ididit columns online. My concern is that they all seem to be catered towards classic GM's. Has anyone ever done one of these swaps? Would it simply be a matter of splicing the Ford wiring harness in? What about concerns about clearances? Any help would be greatly apprecated. I am pretty clueless on this unfortunately. I have cut and pasted the info below if it helps.
Thanks All,
Jack

As far as the effort/expense of the aftermarket column, I don't mind the expense, as we are completely overhauling the interior anyway, and would rather end up with with something that will fit in with the interior we have designed. I just need to find out what is entailed in this process. Any ideas on what we might be in for??? Any specific areas of concern? What about the wiring and clearance of the column. I hate to sound clueless but I have dug all over the internet and haven't found too much on the process.
We are already working on an alarm, although we have to have the new column installed first as it is immobile now. I wasn't planning to start the interior work for another month, as we have a performance shop working on a 600 ci 1175 hp engine that we are installing first, but in light of all this, I guess this moves up our timeframe.
Thanks all,
Jack
