flashers problem

flashers problem
my hazard flashers are goofy. they work but to make them work i have to pull the hazard button and wiggle it back and forth and then hold it at a certain pressure, then as soon as i let go the flashers turn off, what could cause this, how can i fix it, is it just age showing up on a '79 steering column? thanks for any help

Pull the steering wheel, disconnect the turn signal arm and cover, disconnect the connector and pull it through. Installation is the reverse. You need a steering wheel puller.
Dunno how much.
Get a new one. Switches wear out and wiring ages. A junkyard assembly may be fine. Or it may not. It might last forever. Might not.
