2004 STX Mods - Comments Please

I just picked up my 2004 F150 STX Heritage this week. Now looking to dress it up a little more. Its Bright Red. Line-Xed the bed already, Black.

Now its on to the headlight and tailing areas, I just can’t decide whether to get the clear corners or get the smoked corners and smoked headlight covers.

Black Corners and Headlight covers

One concern here is that, different shades of black my look bad.

Clear corners and leave the stock headlight alone

Taillights

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2469287951

http://www.stylinconcepts.com/part.c...=25&lc=pfpartt

I really like the stylinconcepts best, but not worth $169.

Other things I am going to do or thinking about:
Mod the headlight switch, so foglights can be turned on without the headlights.
Thinking about Day Time Running Light – Not sure yet
Thinking about changing out the gauge panel, I want a tach. (not a cheap mod for a tach)

Sure would like some comment or recommendation, especially about the headlights (on a Bright Red STX)

Thanks

First, be VERY careful of what you buy on eBay. Several of my customers have saved a few bucks on mods there, only to get crap that fits so poorly you wouldn't want it on your truck. When it comes to mods, you get what you pay for.
Second, aren't smoked covers illegal? Don't you have to remove them every time you turn your lights on (which is a LOT here in Upstate New York!)? I've always thought the clear head and tail lights with the mirrored insides looked best- like a Lightning.

I'd be very interested to know how you make out with adding the tach- I'd like to do that to my STX, as well, but that's gotta be a bear of a job.

I would go with the clear tailights and corners on red.

What cab, engine, and transmission options did you get? How much did you pay for it (if you don't mind me asking)... Just curious, as I got a 2004 Heritage STX also, have had it about 5 weeks now. True blue SCab, 5 speed, V-6. I really like that the STX had the bigger wheels and tires, and mine came with running boards, bug shield, and bedliner. I'm going to put power windows and locks, eventually. There are a few things I would like to do with it, that I am still debating (lift, etc)

What kind of plans do you have for yours?

Also, did you test drive the NEW F-150? I did. And I really didn't like it, actually.

Post STX Tach is easy

Hey guys,

Just FYI, this thread on another board tells all about throwing an FX4 gauge cluster into an STX (complete with tach) for $330 and 20 minutes of your time.

(hopefully that link works, if not, its on F150online.com in the 2004 F-150 forum and is named "STX gets New Cluster w/ Tachometer")

Talking

Mark1956,

What a small world!

I purchased my truck from VanBortel. Unfortunately, I've had a ton of problems with your service department. You probably are familiar with my truck, my name is Justin VanAlstyne.

She's going back in for one last service visit to you guys tomorrow afternoon. A few issues still need worked out (driveline smoothness, steering rub, possible update of PCM, and replacing an interior part due to damage from when you replaced the rear window).

Seems to me so far that anything you can buy for the '03 fits the '04 Heritage, which is good in some ways, bad in others. For instance, when shopping around for custom seat covers, I have found I have to put that I have an '03 F150 rather than an '04 or my seat style won't come up (60/40 bench w/console, removeable headrests, and seatbelt in the seat).

yea i know but in 2004 the F150 changed to a totally new body style and i believe thats what most of the new posts on this forum are about. you own a 2004 F150 "heritage' which resembles the 97-03 models.

I clicked on every link, and all but the very last link was for a 97-03 F150. I'd be very careful before you order.

Yes they do say 2003. You must understand I have a 2004 Heritage model, that is the same as a 2003 model. Everything listed as 2004 is for hte new body style.

Here is what I bought so far. From procarparts.com

Yup, you mentioned it was a Heritage, and I completely missed it. Sorry 'bout that!

I was referring to the fact that the original poster was also talking about a Heritage they just bought... so they can use 2003 parts as well. Most 2004 listed parts are for the new body style, which I do know about, since I don't live under a rock lol
