Anyone know where I can get an alcohol friendly mechanical fuel pump for a 300? How about if the 300 pump interchanges with anything else out there that is more performance oriented (302, 351, 350sbc, etc.)?
Is your concern with the stock pump longevity or fuel delivery? If it is fuel delivery you will probably need to look at electric because you need about twice as much alcohol as gas for a given power level. I think Clifford sells a high output mechanical pump for the 300, but I don't know how much extra it flows. If your concern is with longevity just buy a cheap pump, flush it with gasoline after use (which you should do anyway when running methanol), and change it regularly.
Methanol takes double flow to make the same power. Ethanol only takes 10-20% more flow. A stock style pump will support ethanol use, i just need one that has an alcohol seal in it.
I suspect that the current pumps from advance or autozone or whereever are already etoh ready. They will be the old style pump, but the modern diaphragms in just about all new pumps are "flex fuel" ready. Or so I have heard. And at $20, if I am wrong you are not out too much. Are you going to run 100% etoh, or just mixed?
I'm looking at running E85. There's a station by me that sells it and it's under a dollar a gallon right now. I know I'll have to seal my tanks, run a stainless fuel line, seal the bowl of my carb, run an alcohol fuel pump, run my jet out just a bit, and reduce the effective size of my radiator. Only stumbling block right now is the pump. I figure i can convert for about $100, so it would pay for itself in about 5 tanks. Then if i want to run gas all i have to do is throw the smaller jet back in and call it good.
