1953 Ford Flathead Automatic
undefinedI have a chance to buy an original 1953 Ford F-100(Flathead v-8 with automatica transmission. Does anyone know how rare these are? It's unrestored but solid. I know it depends on condition but does anyone have a price?

Stang, it's hard to guess what they are worth site-unseen. Does it run? Are the corners rusted out of the cab? etc. etc. I bought my 54 2-years ago with the 289/c4, volare IFS, and 9" rearend already installed and running down the road. The price was $4400. For a stocker in original condition the price would prob be in the $500-$2500 range depending on condition. I know this isn't a very precise answer, but you're not giving much info. John

Like John said, rust is a problem. You can buy new fenders and a bed, but the cab and frame are area's you want to keep as rust-free as possible. Decode the vin plate to make sure it left the factory with an auto. If it's got some rust through, is mostly original and un modified I'd say at least $1000-$2500 depending on conditon and originalty of course. I don't think anybody has the #'s on how many were built with autos, but since it was the first year option I'd say it's pretty rare!
