I have read a lot of things concerning AT with a 99 and 99.5. From my manufacture date, mine is a pre 99, made before dec. 31 of 98. From what I gather the tranny on a 99 wont lock up for engine braking, like towing trailer down hill. Is this correct?
Second, I have a SuperChip, can this change the characteristics of the tranny as to where it would lock up. Reason for asking is my AT behavoir doesn't sound like that of a typical pre 99 AT. Sounds more like the 99.5.
Thinking of different upgrades and order of purchase. Planning on getting 5th wheel next year and wondering if a trans command, or equivelent, would be necessary.

Little off topic but I have a 99.5 (4R100) tranny. I just installed the sonnax valve and tricumulator springs in mine a few weeks ago...what a diff. The tranny feels completely diff now. Nice crisp shifts and I also have the SCMT on the high performance setting truck is very stout. Not sure about the year of your truck but I think the sonnax/tricum mod is for any 4r100 tranny, and the mod is well worth the 50 bucks and a few hours to install.
