Sanderson makes a block hugger header that is REALLY tight to the block. I bought them.
You *MIGHT* be able to use a set of 79-93 Mustang shorty headers, I tried to use them but they hit the column, since you are running a 289 I am running a 351W, it's a little skinnier so it might be ok. Sandersons will fit for sure! Here's a comparison. Getting the Sandersons resulted in me having to change my hydraulic clutch setup too.
