There's a cutaway view of the engine, on the page entitled, "and we engineered an even more powerful Triton V-8," of the F-150 brochure. You can clearly see the chains driving the cams.
The chains have hydraulic tensioners pressurized by the engine oiling system to take up slack. FWIW, My 4.6 has 150K on the original chains.
I don't believe Ford even publishes a service interval for the timing chains.
As Ford doesn't warranty above 100k, they could care less about whether anyone changes the belt. The one vehicle I had that I took above 100k, I changed the belt at about 120k. It was getting a bit sloppy. They do wear from the gears, which also wear. At 150k, you might want to think about replacing the chain, especially if you need to replace the water pump. The water pump is something else they don't have regular maintenance on, but they do corrode.
I've got 256,000 on the 4.6 in my Town Car. These things last forever. I've worked in a Lincoln dealer for 24 years. I havent seen a modular engine 4.6 or 5.4 come in with a broken timing chain yet. Unless the cam has seized in the head from lack of maintenance. Ive seen many with over 200,000 miles.
