Got rear-ended by a lady in traffic this morning. It doesn't look too serious; it mainly bent the bumper mounts up really bad. It also sheared a mounting bolt, allowing one of the bumper mounts to hit one of the axle shackles and make a small dimple in it. At least the lady was polite and insured.
Glad to hear it wasn't that bad. My biggest fear is that I will get mine all "macked out" an then.....well you know I don't want to say and jinx myself. Hopefully it will as good as new in no time.
No, it's really pretty simple work; I just hate insurance companies and this is exactly why. The accident occured at 7:45am on Thursday, I called it in on 8:00am, and spoke with a local adjuster at 9:30am. She saw it before 2pm, and as of 6:30pm today does not have a settlement ready because no fault has been assigned for the accident. Apparently the other driver isn't returning phone calls from the adjuster, and if this keeps up, the claim will be denied as invalid. Needless to say, I was less than impressed with this answer and expect a better one at the beginning of next week. I hate lawyers as well, but am not above calling one in.
well, the person that hit you in the rear in at fault for "failure to controll" no matter what, if he doesnt return the adjusters calls, the insurance has to pay for it no matter what.
when it comes to a "battle" between a truck and a teenie car, the hunk of steel will prevail. I caught myself daydreaming a little to late about a year ago and smacked right into a 92 ford taurus, crushed their whole fiberglass bumber to bits. And only a 1/2" smudge of red paint on my front bumber, which i wipied away with my finger. But in the end it was an expensive daydream, cost me $500.
Oooh, that was an expensive dream. It turns out that wandering minds on the road are not a good thing. A couple of years ago I fell asleep at the wheel of my wife's Volvo in traffic. I woke up to the sound of an Expedition's rear bumper causing $2,500 in damage as it cleared the Volvo's bumper and went straight back through the radiator, condensor, headlights...
bigric,
Glad to see the damage was fairly minor, I drive my bronco every day on the stop & go interstate, and have been rearended several times, I think 5 times in about 3 years. Luckily they have been at relatively low speeds, and the damage has been virtually nonexistant to my truck, but I also believe the saving factor is that I have a class III hitch on it, it seems to take the impact and transfer it evenly on the frame and protects the bumper. Hitch tube on the other hand does considerable damage to offending vehicle.
I know this is really late but I am home right now and due to the dial-up connection dont spend alot of time online.
This is in response to ANdrewdrice's post about the "failure to control" charge.
I agree with you, to a point. I admit that 99% of the time the person who hit another vehicle from behind is usually deemed at fault but there are situations where this is definitely not the case. For instance, I was travelling through town quite a few years ago on a five lane road, 2 going each direction and a center lane that is to be used for left turns. I was in the left hand lane when I looked to my right because I thought I recognized a person stuck on the side of the road. When I turned to look in front of me all I saw was an Explorer at a dead stop about 3 feet in front of me. Needless to say I didnt get stopped in time. My 94 Oldsmobile 88 took quite a beating when I hit the Explorer hard enough to push her into the car in front of her.
So not only did I bend the bumper of the Explorer down but I also pushed the Explorer into a small white car in front of her causing damage to that car and the Front of the Explorer. However, I was not found to be at fault, and surprisingly neither of the other two vehicles that were involved were either. The ticket was given to a lady directly in front of the small white car because she failed to use the left turn lane causing what should have been the smoothest lane of traffic to suddenly come to a halt.
I would definitely look into any and all possibilities when you are in an accident. I didnt even have to fight for that one. The cop on the scene wrote it all up like that. I was very very happy.
