oil pan gasket

I need to change my pan gasket. The manual says to take out the radiator. Can I just take the fan off? Will that give me enough clearance?

More info. What vehicle/engine? I have never heard of taking out the radiator for a oil pan job.

To just change the gasket, you don't have to lift the engine at all. I did this with my dad, and it took the two of us 2 hours start to finish. Drain oil, unbolt pan, take out old gasket (hopefully it's one piece) clean the gasket surfaces, put in new one piece Ford gasket, bolt pan back on, refill oil. We didn't unbolt anything but the oil pan. That was on a '92 300 six, don't know what you have though.

You don't have to raise the motor unless you plan on taking the pan out. To just replace the gasket, there is no need to raise the motor at all.
