Question Stock System

I'm looking for opinions and advice on the stock system in the 2004 Escape XLT. Does anyone else have what sounds like bad reception/too much crackling with their receiver when listening to the radio. It seems like the louder and harder the song is the more I'm getting that crackling sound. I would dismiss it to a bad signal, but it seems to be on a lot of stations. Also, does anyone have trouble with their bass response? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Mike

Do you experience this problem when listening to CD's as well, or just the radio? Radio reception is not always great, but when combined with a weak headunit and stock setup, the sound can be pretty bad. This is especially noticed with bass response because most factory speakers/headunits just arent powerful and clean enough to put out good sound at anything more than moderate volumes.

Usually when playing CDs the sound is better. I don't get the crackling, however, the system doesn't handle bass response that well. So, I guess I'm wondering if upgrading the speakers would help or is the problem more with the receiver/CD player? I'd hate to change the headunit, because I like the 6 CD changer, and I'm not sure if I'm going to invest the cash right now.
