Engine dies when shifted into reverse..
I have a 96 B4000, 170,000+ miles
This is a fun one...
This started about two months ago, but the clues started about 4 months ago. First of all, when I shift into reverse, sometimes it will kill the engine, slowly, as if it were a manual and you let the clutch out.
O/D light will flash at you, untill you turn the vehicle off, and then back on again, then the problem goes away, shifts just fine, no OD light.
The Check engine doesn't come on, so I don't think I will be able to read codes
About 4 months ago, I noticed it took a few more seconds to shift onto reverse, and then it would finally engage. I just chalked it upto cold at that time.
When you shift into drive, it works fine, no delay, no problems.
it seems once the vehicle is warmed up, it won't repeat the problem, and it more of a factor when it was colder.
I have been told it is possibly a torque converter, what do you guys think?
