I apologize for my ignorance, but can someone explain to me a little about rear end gearing?
My 01 SCREW 4x4 has 3.55 LS rear end. Here are my questions:
Is 3.55 "higher" gearing than say, a 4.10, or is it "lower".
In simple terms, how would I feel the difference in say, a 3.55 vs. a 4.10? Which would accelerate faster? Which would have more low end torque? Which would get better gas mileage?
Also, off topic, but I have 275/70/R17 tires on my truck. Is this standard, or are they a little bigger than standard?
The 4.10 is the lower or deeper rear end. It is the rear associated with towing and hauling and well as acceleration. The 3.55 is higher or taller and will give you better gas mileage with an empty bed.
The tire size sounds stock, but I'm thinking it may be 255 or 265/70R17. That size depends on the option package the truck came with. There may be more info in the tire "sticky" post at the beginning of the forum.
