Yea, its called wet stacking. The trucks idle up if the oil temp doesnt reach a certain tempature, i think. There has been many posts about this, some people think it happens some dont. I dont know what to think, the longest my truck sat at idle was for about 4-5 hours. Then i got on the highway and drove it like i stole it.
Another problem with letting it idle for long peroids of time and frequently is the torque converter. The power in the engine really wears on them during idle.
Lets say you leave your diesel in low idle overnight in extreme sub-zero temperatures, then the potential for wet stacking certainly exists. However, in modern computer controlled diesels with built in high idle functions it is nearly impossible. Very close to being urban legend.
I have experienced fuel in oil from long idling on even the most modern Cummins engines but the Powerstroke has such a fancy injection system that it is really not an issue. However it is still good practice, as with any machine, to "TURN OFF WHEN NOT IN USE" This is a general rule for life
