Turned my scmt up to level 3 today got on the highway and hammered it was doing 90 before I knew it boost was 27 and egt were 900 the engine light came on so I slowed way down for a min and the light went off i nailed it a few more times and the light did not come on, any thoughts
I'd definitely get a different air intake on that. The stock boxes just don't have any room for airflow and anything else would be an improvement. I'm sure many people will tell you to go with a Tymar, I've got a K&N and I'm happy with that. You'll have to do a search and find out what you can.
K and N will let enough dust through to cause raised silicon levels in the oil. A k and n will allow 3 times the amount of dirt through than the stock filter.
Definety got your truck too hot. With that post turbo mount of the sensor, you were probably closer to 1300-1400 on your EGT's. I run a predator and if I let it, it will get hot too. Your egine light will come on and off as you have seen. Bascally you need a better intake (yes K&N are just fine) with a new air box. And do not stay in the throttle so long.
Getting it too hot is not what set the SES light. The 27 pounds of boost did. Unless you install one of the devices used to control the MAP sensors input you will set the light every time you exceed 24 psi, no matter where your thermocouple is located.
1300-1400 for short periods will not hurt your engine, but it would be nice to know when you are up there. I recommend a pre-turbo thermocouple.
Thanks cookie. I have hit a few times before I straight piped my exaust and the light never came on. I dont remember looking at the gauge but for some reason I wanna say 24psi of boost. Would just a straight pipe give another 3 psi?
Evidently it will , on mine the straight pipe mad 1 or maybe 2, so three isn't that much of a stretch.
What your boost gauge is reading isn't really relevant (it may be off 1-2 psi in either direction), what matters is the boost the MAP sensor reads, at 24 psi the SES light is set.
