Im having a crisis here and i need some help and being that this is a stand up bunch of people here im sure one of you computer literate types would give me a hand
I come here to FTE through a dial up AOL connection when i click on the link in my "favorite places" it comes up to the forums. I have noticed that when i see the list of posts in the forums its stayed the same for several days. in the center part tho i see the last post made to the forum regardless of when its been made that day. I cant get to the new posts that day
I tried going into my control panel and deleting the temporary internet files rebooting my computer and posting to the mods who suggested i chage theupdate of the temporary internet files , which i have four choices from checking every visit to a page, everytime i open wondows Explorer ( which is where it was), automatically ( where i put it now) and never.
I am stumped. It also appears i cant log out now as when i do when i move to the next page im back logged in again or the blue borders turn grey and stay that way until i hit the escape key a couple of times. I dont have this kind of problem with any other VBulletin board im on. of which i belong to four or five others.. Anyone have ideas? I am kinda completely computer illeteriate so if someone wants to respond ill even give an email address or phone number or whatever is easiest to try to get thorough this
Thanks in advance for any advice or assistance
Bob
and I imagine this only happens on this one computer? Have you tried accessing from antoher comp? or tried accessing the sight via a pop-up type window, say going THROUGH hotmail?
Try deleting your cookies and your temp. internet files. To do this, in Internet Explorer, go to TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS, adn then click on the Delete Cookies and the Delete Files button in the middle of the dialog box that pops up. Also, try accessing the site through Internet Explorer (instead of the AOL browser), after you sign on to AOL. That should do the trick.
ok i signed onto MSN and tried to get in through my hotmail and i have the same problem there i dont have access to another computer to try that until i can maybe get to a library tomorrow
Do a search in files and folders for *.tmp in your C drive (main drive)
When finished "ctrl" A and delete these are temp files, can and will slow and screw things up.
If you have never done this it coudl be big, do you defrag?
ok guys i appreciate all this help
NDrum2005 i ried it and still no good
Tim i did the seartch and got rid of 130 of 131 *tmp files of those one is "Perfect Nav BHO log" which wasnt able to be deleted something about it being write protected or in use the comp was defragged a while back i will see how this goes as i post this reply and see if i get any improvement
Just a thought - since you are coming through AOL, it may be something in the AOL software causing the problem. If you have a help number for AOL, call them up to see if they can help.
Also - if you haven't already, try hitting the 'refresh' button. It's the one with two green arrows on it. 'Refresh' causes a reload of the screen.
ive tried though AOL and i have tried through Hotmail and cant get this to stop doin this and none of the suggestions thus far have worked but you guys are good! keep the suggestions coming! Thanks again!
what version are you using? second, did you use a disk if you upgraded versions?{upgrading by by downloading off net can create issue's,expecpt high speed} if not , go get the disk, blockbuster has them for free, use that to re-install. let us know....
p.s. your computer are you using 98, 98se, 2000, mill, xp home,or xp pro?
is it a mac?
do you have more than one version of AOL on your computer? this can cause problems too...

I have some old compaq persario computer which runs windows 98 i hae AOL 6.0 running i think i may try this at 7.0 and see if that does it 6.0 was installed on here originally i downloaded 7.0 my comp is too old to deal with the new versions currently available on disc. do you think im going to have to find my discs to restore the computer back to its original grandeur ? If i co uld afford a new computer id just do that but for now this is all i can do its nervewracking!!
also a better computer , can be had for less than $300. check papers/trading post, most times you'll get the soft ware with it and help setting it up.
have you defraged your hard drive lately? if not, do so before upgrading. check how room you have on your hard drive, if its more than 2/3's full...time for a larger drive..full hard drives will act funny.....
maybe dumping old files to make more room..than defrag.
defraging a ...it helps put everything back in order. and free's up space.right click the c/ drive click properties than see how much room is left..
i'm no guro just good with a hammer......

All chinese to me. I know how to turn one on and crash it! aND USUALLY WANT TO TAKE A HAMMER TO THE ONES i USE
I always tell people with AOL to switch ISP's, go with an ISP that dont require you to install their software...With something like "earthlink", setup "dial-up networking" in windows. Other advantage, now you can use "outlook express" for email.
As far as the problem- Since you deleted your "cookies" already, try typing or click this https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/, dont use the one in your favorites.
If you lived closer, Ied just say bring it over to my house...I got parts coming out my ears
