Need 3:50 or 3:73...which VIN code?
I'm going to swap out the rear gear in my truck from a 3.00 or 2.73 to a 3.50,3.55, or 3.73.
This is on a '76 Ford F-100 2 wheel drive pickup.
Can someone tell me if there is a vin code that is present that will indicate this gear for me?

The VIN doesn't contain the axle code, it's on the door jamb sticker under axle. You're better off counting pinion to axle shaft rotations on the junkyard trucks. People will change the gears and you could end up back to the 3.00 if you're not careful.
