Anyone out there with a 1997 F-350 Powerstroke convert their exhaust from the turbo back with 4" pipe? I am thinking about it, but not sure if it's worth the $$$ to do it. Does it really help the power/torque and EG temp? How much more noise does it create. Where is the best place to order the kit from and what can I expect to pay for it? Lot of questions, but I was told this is the place to get answers!!
I got a 4" exhaust for my 2000 250 for $320 including shipping. 4" downpipe and a 5" chrome tip were included. Noise wasn't very noticable from inside the cab, sounds meaner from the outside but nowhere near being obnoxious. I added this to a superchips tuner and a MAC cold air intake system and the increase in power and just healthy sounding egine was dramatic. DEF. spend the money if you have it.
I put a 4" on my '95 F250 and I'm very happy with it. Actually it has a 3" downpipe that goes to a 4" straight through system. Eliminated the cat too. It added great throttle response and seems to shift crisper too. I love the sound, way more turbo whistle without being obnoxious either. I have the programmer set on the highest setting and it totally woke up the truck! The 95-97 flat style factory downpipe is very restrictive. I would highly recommend the exhaust and programmer.
Thanks guys, where did you get the exhaust kit from? I have seen different places on the net (and different prices). I have a SuperChip 1705 and K&N Filter on mine, and got to get rid of that hot exhaust now!
Thanks again,
Stroker350
I got my exhaust off of Ebay. I buy most of my stuff of of there. I got my Superchips tri-tuner for $250, my MAC cold air intake for $130, and my exhaust for $280 + $40 for shipping. I emailed the dude to see if he had a website or contact info that I could pass along. If that's innapropriate I apologzie to the mods.
Why not build your 4" yourself. Just find a truck parts store in your area ( Big rigs ) and they will stock 4" exhaust tubing and the pieces you need. I just built one for my 99 last weekend and the exhaust is a 3" downpipe which jumps to 4" straight pipe. Just had to buy a coupler and a 45 and the exhaust exits just before the rear wheel. I will try to post some pics of the finished setup. All bolt on. Easy to do, just takes a couple of hours. You will need a recip. saw or a chop saw to cut the pipe to the desired lengths but I did it all for less than 100 bucks. Good luck. The pre made kits will save you some time but never save you any money.
4" pipe is good. If you do a 4" i'd sudjest doing a 4" downpipe as well. Lets u get more out of ur turbo if you add a tunerchip. THere are chips out that have the stages and I knwo if you only have the 3" tip u can't go above 100hp increase cause it can't handle it correctly.
I have gone with the full Banks PowerPack setup and it shoudl be great (Should be meaning its not up and running.. Doing a ground up restor on a 99 that was in a fire)
But it adds a mean sounds, nice power, and you shouldn't mind it at all for the noise.
On a '97, you'd have a hard time putting a 4" downpipe on it. I used a Hypermax downpipe on my '95. It starts at 3" at the turbo, but bells out to 3.5" once it clears the firewall. Under the truck, you can put a reducer on the end to expand it to 4", or 5" like I did.
Just my $.02.
Yes, I could understand it to be hard if on the late 90's trucks. I know its not the easiest thing to do on the 99-04's as well. I'm sure either way you go will be in a possitive way for your truck. Much luck with it
