$27 Oil Filter??
Naturally none of the local parts stores have an oil filter for the 6.0 so I end up at the local dealership. He sets me up with an oil filter for $27 but tells me he did me a favor by knocking $5 off. Gee...thanks. 14 quarts of Rotella was $33.
My question is, how often are you guys changing your oil? Does it need to be changed every 3000 miles if all driving is hiway?
p.s. The easy access to the filter is nice.

Have you priced oil at the local parts store. Usually you can buy it in larger quantities at petter prices. Also, I would suggest using Pennzoil 15W40 Long Life. I have heavy equipment (Caterpillar 941B, 416B) and also a Ford Dump Truck (1988 LN8000). I have used this oil in all of my Diesels and am very pleased with the performance and the price. I also hate to pay dealer costs for anything. I think you too will be pleased with the Pennzoil. Let me know what you think.

I change my oil/filter every 5000 miles, and am using Shell Rotella 15-40 and International filters. The Int'l filters usually go for 18.99 each, but the local dealer had a sale on them at 14.99 each so I bought 4. I get the Rotella by the case at Sam's or BJ's for 36.95 per case. Two cases is 3 oil changes. I am going to get a Fumoto oil drain plug valve which will make the changes even easier. These go for 22.00 from Fumoto Valve at www.fumotovalve.com. They were out of stock last I checked, but will be in soon, I hope.

on page 49 of the 6.0L PSD manual, it states "Normal Oil Change Interval" as "7500 miles or 6 mos, whechever occurs first". for Special or Severe, it downs to 5000 miles.
i got my first filter at local INTERNATIONAL dealer here in detroit, for ~17 bones. (i've heard the dealer is quite a bit higher).
oil at WallyWorld by the gallon or Sam's has the cases of Rotella makes it somewhat affordable. i did rotella the first time and didn't like it -- had the rough idle thing happen after, but it went away in due time. i'll do a search for oil on this forum before my next oil change (due now).

[B]First things first......you should have looked into the costs of maintenance before you made your purchase! Naturally, parts for new innovations such as the 6.0 will be higher in the beginning but as the engine is produced more and more, price of parts will drop as any other. To answer your question, and this will be kind of relieving for you, the price is about right unless you look around on the net to find discount parts that you have to order but the good thing is that you can change your oil now at 7500 miles instead of 3000 (again.....should have read your owners manual). I usually change mine at 5000 only because I want my truck to last for a very long time. Hope this helps.
