stumped

hey all, wow, do i need some help. i just recently baught a new 670 holley truck avenger carb. the truck which is a 85 f-250 4x4 with a 351w doesn't want to idle when started. it takes about five minutes of reving the engine (not big revs) before it will idle without dying. then when driving if i accelerate to fast the truck seems to cut out, and then will kick back in. this is really toubling, i have checked for vaccum and found none, i have a new rotar and new plugs and wires. i have adjusted the idle and idle mixture but it doesn't seem to help. i had my mechanic look at it and he couldn't find anything. he said that the carb just needs to be broken in a little. does that make sense? does anyone know what could be going on? is the 670 too much carb for the 351w?

thanks for any info?

Have you tried to adjust your choke,I have the same problem with my 351m,I'm always tweeking the choke when the weather changes, just a thought ,still trying to get mine to stop doing what it's doing.I don't think the carb is to big, connsidering 351w come factory with a 600 or 650 not to sure which.

You say you've checked for vacuum and found none. I think I'd start looking at why you don't have vacuum at idle. Your vacuum should be around 20 at an idle, and your problem with cutting out and kicking back in sure sounds like a vacuum leak to me.....
