E40D dirt in tranny
I just had my E40D repaired after having it rebuilt 10,000 miles ago. The tech says they found a large amount of dirt in the trany and filter. The vehicle has never been swamped, but it did get stuck/high centered on its difs once. They think it might have come from power washing it. But unless I put dirt in the dipstick or down the breather, how could I have got dirt in the trany. I am worried that this will happen again. I have only been in the mud once with this vehicle. Any ideas?

Was "playing" in a big mud hole a few years ago with a group of people. All of them with E4ODs had transmission failure afterwards. They injested mud/dirt/water via the vent at the top of the case. A few minutes of fun ended up costing a lot of money. Luckily, the 4R70W in my vehicle did not have any problems.

I never had the truck that deep. I can only think that 1) the dipstick tube was loose, or 2) there was a direct hit to the vent with muddy water while the trans was rapidly cooling and sucking. The tech says that the tube was installed correctly.
