maf sensor

does anyone have a picture of what the maf sensor looks like? Also...where is it? Under the airbox? I think thats whats causing my van to run like crap. It is studdering at idle and sometimes doesn't want to accelerate while driving. I figure cleaning or replacing the maf is next in the process of elimination. I've already done the plugs, wires, dist.cap, new battery (old one died). I have another alternator waiting, because I thought it might be that, but I don't think it is.
Anyway, it would help to know what I"m looking for so if there is a pic somewhere, please let me know.

On my '93 3.0L, the MAF sensor is on the side of the top half of the air box. It's the half you have to remove in order to change the Air Filter. The MAF is on the aft side of the box, and it has a big connector on it. You can't possibly miss it. To open the MAF, you need some "security torx bits." I bought the whole set at Kragen and they are pretty cheap. When you pull the MAF out, be very careful since it has two wire elements which can break easily. Don't lose the O-ring either.

Now, I have heard a lot about MAF sensors, but when I took mine out after 150,000 miles it looked pretty clean. Actually, cleaning it didn't change anything for me. I would suggest that you pull the vacuum hose going into the fuel pressure regulator first. If you see gas in there, replace the regulator. That's a more likely culprit. Also, replace the fuel filter if you haven't done that in the last 50,000 miles.

easy way to open the maf is to take a dremel or another cutting wheel tool and cut a slot in the screws. Took me less than a minute to do this and I could use a regular screwdriver.
