I have a 1971 F250 2WD with 4 wheel drum brakes that dont work right now, and I have a 1975 F100 with front discs/rear drums. Can I swap the front disc brakes from the 75 to the 71? Is all I have to do is swap the spindles, mounting plate, etc? If the 75 wont swap, does anyone know what I can use to get some disc brakes on this 71???
You should be able to make the swap. But first check out the tech article at this site. I'm going to do the same with my 70 F250 camper special. Print out the article and then start collecting your parts.
If the donor vehicle's kingpins are decent, you can save a trip to a machine shop to press them out by just swapping entire axle assemblies. Its certainly no more difficult than fooling with stuck kingpins. Either way the conversion is worth the work.
I printed out the article. I probably will be trying the swap sometime in the next month. Ive done everything on there before except get some kingpins out. My cuz got some acetylene torches so Im hoping its not gonna be too hard. Well see.
