Hey guys '80 Bronco, 351M, Duraspark II. Couple days ago it started missing. It will start fine, idle at ~450 and miss extremely bad, at the tail pipe it sounds like its running on 4 cylinders. In park, hold the RPM's at 2000, and it kinda for lack of a better term, shakes? and misses. Obviously the first thought would be spark plugs, coil, cap, rotor, wires. BUT, If I put it in gear, and try to drive, only when it gets to about 1000 rpms, it will kinda 'Kick' out of the miss, and run fine. Also, if I put it in gear, hold the brakes, and rev up to about 1000, it also kicks out of the miss and seems to run just fine. This is frustrating. What is it? Distributer? Ign. Module? I have basically no money, so I can't exactly go buying everything. Please help me! Sorry the post was so long, but I kind of need the thing to run, it's my only transportation.
i have had similar problems and it was my distributors advance was broken, I also still have power problems and im stumped but your problem sound like the timing is off or its acting like its off because the vacuum or mechanical advance is off. check your vacuum line from the dist. to the carb before anything in depth.
Vacuum line is good, and it's getting vacuum to the advance. Timing can't be off because the distributer is frozen in place, so I know it didn't move. I'm still sticking to the ignition module for now...anyone?
By the way, the ignition module is not stock, its a Napa heavy duty.
