Hi,
I have an intermittent electrical problem on my 82 f150. Occasionally when I start-up I don't have turn signals or blower motor. Sometimes my fuel and temp gauge read zero, and also I blew a fuse for the horn/cigarette lighter (I heard the fuse pop right after I started up). Although the indicators and blower motor are on separate circuits I noticed in the wiring diagram that the hot side of both fuses are common. Does this type of problem sound familiar to anyone, I'm thinking ignition switch, but I can't replicate the problem when I'm trouble shooting
Thanks
This is pretty common on these trucks. After you start the truck, wiggle the keyswitch lightly to make sure it returns to the proper run position. It will be especially aggravating in colder weather. Over the years I have replaced the ignition switch and the keyswitch tumbler for various reasons, and the problem seems to have improved. It also improved with a little wd40 sprayed up in the column behind the keyswitch tumbler. But I still wiggle it a little everytime I start it out of habit.
Thanks, this makes sense since at one point I wiggled the tumbler as I was driving then tried the turn signals and they worked, wasn't sure if it was just coincidence, I'll be more prepared next time, I can't get it to fail through wiggling though. Also it just seems to be when I start the truck cold. I wonder if it's play in the tumbler or play in the actuating rod from tumbler to the switch. I'll have to wait till the weekend now for a closer inspection.
