I am getting 305/70x16's put on my truck. Local Ford dealer recommended that size as the max you can put on stock truck. To be honest, I am a little leary of putting that size on based on some of the info I have read on this site for stock config (too late now, I already put $400 down). Can anyone give me any reasons not to go that big? Ford says I will not loose any integrety with how the suspension is supposed to work in varying conditions.
Ford dealership is going to reprogram the computer to account for larger tires. If I get the preditor will it erase the larger tire setting?
Also...and more importantly...do I need to be concerned with Ford flashing my computer to account for larger tires, or is it a simple data change for the tire portion only? In other words, do I need to be concerned with all the horror stories associated with computer flashes. Truck is running great right now.
I was told by Motorhaven that you cannot adjust tire size, which kind of puts a damper on things if I switch back to originals.
Thanks...you guys are great
oh...and my truck is an 04 Lariat Super duty with FX4 package. Build date on door is 11/03....cant find the engine build date anywhere.
No, the predator does ot adjust for tire size...
but there are a lot of relatively inexpensive after market solutions...
the ford dealer is not your only source...
and, knowing what I know now about the Predator, I would not be concerned about the speedo adjustment for tire size increase...
I'd go with the predator and look for other solutions to the speedo thing...
bearhunter the 305/70/16 will rube if you hit a bump with the wheel turned, also the stock rims are not wide enough for those tires. They will wear uneven, you need at least a 9 inch rim for that size tire, that is if you want to get any mileage from the tires.

ARGHHH!
I'm going to give the Ford dealership a piece of my mind! So how big can I go with no problems? I have 265/75/16 right now.
It doesn't matter if tire size was internal to the computer or external. The Predator reads in the stock program, modifies it and writes it back out so anything that's in the stock program will be there when the Predator reprograms the PCM. Note that going to large can result in a harder shift. Who said we couldn't answer it?
285/75/16 is a better size tire for your stock truck it is the same height as 305/70/16 but a little narrower in width, but may still rub if you have wheel turned hard and hit a bump, another thing to consider is a leveling kit for front you can then run the 305/70/16 tires but I would go to wider rims if you do.
