Reverse Sensing System

I have an '03 Ford Excursion with the Reverse Sensing System factory installed. Recently it has been misbehaving on an intermittent basis. Essentially it will go through spells where when I put the truck into reverse I get the steady tone like I'm within 10" of an obstacle, when in reality there is nothing there. This will happen for a day or so, then it will go back to functioning normally...any ideas? I'm still under warranty, but I HATE taking the truck to the dealer for intermittent problems...they say that if they can't recreate/verify the problem, they can't do anything to fix it.

the only times mine has done that is when there is ice or mud caked on one or more of the sensors. i will just clean them off and the system will work fine again.
