From my 7 or so years of experience driving stuff (all sorts of stuff), as far as Chevy and Ford go, it seems to me that you can pretty much beat the crap out of a Ford and it will beg for more, or at least it'll get you home limping. As for Chevy's, my MINIMAL experience tells me that a Chevy will reward you with a good truck if you baby it, which isn't really a bad thing--it's just not my thing. I like to take my ***** out in the mud and not even let a hose touch it for weeks and drive it to work everyday and forget to check the oil for a few days and then with that same truck I want to beat everyone off the line!!
Great post, and exactly my point. Fords take abuse better. Believe me, I abuse trucks, and I have had a Chevrolet. One time with another brand was all it took for me to find out who made trucks that can stand up abuse.

Out of a family of Chevys me and my dad are the only two in the bunch that drive Fords. My dad has an 87 F150 with over 180,000 miles on it and it runs perfect, never had any trouble with it, holds great oil pressure and I have no problem winding out to six grand OCCASIONALY. I have a 92 model F150 and have had problems with it since Ive owned it. Same engine and all just two different trucks. Its really hard to say between brands wich truck or car holds up better but theres always the good few from any brand that seem to last forever.

I said earlier in another thread under this forum that any vehicle will reflect the type of maintenance done on it.

FordLariat: I believe your statement about the '79, but just to be Devil's Advocate, didn't Ford only come out with a 6 digit odometer in the past 10 years or so?? I know that my '70 is only 5 so there's no telling how many miles are REALLY on it ...

I agree, and all this about what truck will take abuse and what truck needs to be babied ETC.. will always be based on peoples experience. My Old neighborhood, to this day only has 2 Ford Families in it..So Suffice to say, most of My experience was with Chevy for a long time..So I got to see Chevy STuck in places it wasnt supposed to be, pull weight it had no business pulling and get abused by teenagers who just didnt know what normal Maintenance was..They always held up and never required more than normal Maintenance.
In general, they were a pretty stout vehicle. So alot of people will say their Expereince with GM is that " I abused it and it fell apart".. Alot of people will also say " I had a Ford once, was broke every weekend".
All and all they are all good Trucks.

My father bought it new, then I inherited it. That's the only way that I know how many miles were on it.

hey, i am new to fords, but i thought i would throw in that over one year ago i bought an 83 chev to plow with. i has 143000 miles on it, and hadn't been street driven in 10 years. i paid $600 for it, and the only problem was from a u-joint that i never checked before it blew.

so now, i have owned if for a while, it has never left me stranded, never failed to start, and i go weekend wheeling when i am not plowing. that counts as abuse in my book. good strong 700r-4, 350, np208, no problems.
