i have a f150 fx4 on order. the other evening i stopped at a local dealer to check out where the bed post holes were to see if a pace edwards roll top would cover the holes. anyway, i ran into this guy that was looking at the 250's and he asked me if i was considering a 150. i told him yes and he said i better beware, because he had one (f150 fx4) and he said he was having a problem with the hood vibrating was he was traveling at 60+ mph. does anyone have a similar problem or has anyone heard anything on this topic?
thanks for your time,
rob
I've heard (some) people talking about this on the forums. Some have chalked it up to the bug deflector (after market add-on). I've had no such shake or vibration from my hood all the way up to 85 MPH so far (haven't gone faster than that yet).
The hood is known to "vibrate at highway speeds particularly if you are running with a hi-profile bug deflector installed. There have been several post regarding the hood shacking/vibrating at 60+ mph. It is most notable when there is a strong cross wind or if running in the draft of larger trucks (18 wheelers most notably).
The rear quarter panels flex like crazy. Just get behind a 2004 F150 on the highway, they move in and out like crazy. It's like the metal is too thin???
Haven't noticed the quarter panel flexing, but I will try to look for it next time I get behind another F150. I have had mine up to 95 mph and experienced no vibrations. I do not have a bug deflector however, and if I recall correctly, years ago when I drove a 4 Runner with a deflector, the hood vibrated some at high speeds. If it is a problem on the F150, it isn't a problem that is all of a sudden a new one that Ford created.
I have maxed mine out at just short of 105 a couple of times. I have not noticed anything with the hood or the quarter panels. I have the low profile bug deflector on mine. Of course it would is hard to see the quarter panels from the drivers seat
The other day I was driving over a bridge at 60mph (I have a bugshield) with a good crosswind and the hood started shaking so bad I thought I might have to pull over. I heard the hoods are aluminum but I expect better stability than that. It's on my list for my next round of warranty work.
I have noticed the hood moving myself as well as some wind noise after installing my bug shield. I may remove it soon, or may just decide to live with it. I shall ponder that dillema further.
I drove mine at up to 70 miles per hour this week end (only for a few seconds) but I did not notice any vibration. A bug shield was installed today... so... I will try it on April 7th to see if it vibrates/bends/shake. Why on April 7th? I am not back home until then.
I have a low profile deflector and maxed mine out at just over 100mph and the hood did not vibrate. The ride is so smooth I didn't even realize I was going 100mph.
Nice truck 2004 supacrewlariat.... I just ordered one almost identical to yours. Do have a web link or info on the manufaturer of your tonneau? I like the low profile of it.
I have a bug deflector and i don't think it is low profile and ihave no movment of the hood on my truck. Also fo rthe guys that said they had the trucks at 100 + i thought the truck had a govenor that held it to 95 and dropped it back to 90?
