Hey everyone...
I've got some problems with my 01 PSD 4x4, and I've heard a-lot about code readers. Where can you get one?
Do the programming units have this capability, or do you need another type of unit?
The reason I ask is that the Ford dealer I'm messing with can never find any codes, and the dang thing only misses after you've driven around for a while.
You can buy an inexpensive OBDII code reader for <$200, or you can stop by your local AutoZone and they'll pull the codes for you free. Another option is a performance tuner like the Predator, which includes great diagnostic functions.
Does your check engine light stay on? If it doesn't, it's probable that your dealer is correct and there simply aren't any codes being stored.
Actually, the check engine light never comes on.
It did when my front O-rings went out, and it died, but after the dealer "fixed it", it hasn't come back on. However, it's still running all messed up... (missing & the engine wobbles)
Well, if it runs poorly all the time, I would think the dealer would be smart enough to figure out why (if not, maybe it's time for a new dealer). If it's intermittant they have a data recorder that they can loan to you so it will "record" what's going on when it's acting up.
Wow!!! I didn't think that they did that sort of thing.
Do you have to ask them to borrow it, or would that be something that they should "just do"?
Do they normally charge for something like that?
