My 81 Bronco has a NP 208. First off I have been having some trouble with the rear output shaft seal, they keep popping out of the housing, even the one I bought from the dealership, which went in fine unlike the other ones from other parts stores( I have tried a total of 5 seals). Anyways I am tired with the aggrivation and was wondering how much a t-case would cost at a wrecking yard? What other tranfer cases would bolt right up? One of my friends said to search for a vent that may be plugged. Is there one? While looking I found an electrical connector on the top, it was disconnected but I found the wire that would go to it, what is it for? Thanks for the help or info.
Probably for a 4x4 indicator or something like that. As for the vent, i would imagine there would be one on it, theres one on every other peice of the driveline. Instead of getting a whole new t-case, just get the rear housing if it is like my 205, you can replace them separate.
there is a vent. its on the top right of the roof of the transfer case. it should have a tube attached to it so try to locate it by look for a black rubber tube about 1/4 inch wide.
if those instructions are unclear I can take a picture of my NP-208 breather tube, or you can check out a picture which will indicate the location of the breather tube here: http://www.seanstrucks.netfirms.com/np208lug.html
I have one rubber hose on the very top, it is real long and looks like it goes to my shifter, I diddn't think that would be it. If it isnt I will keep looking. Thanks for the help.
