duals without muffler?

my buddy did it to his 97 silverado Z-71.
it isnt very loud at idle or in the lower RPMs, but when you give it some gas, it is LOUD AS HELL. it doesnt sound very good either, like a bunch of really loud pops
most states require a muffle to pass an inspection also

I've got that setup on my 98 F-150, and it's actually not that bad. Puts out a nice low, throaty sound. Though if I take off without letting her warm up, it pops like hell for several seconds. Heard plenty around here louder than mine. Maybe I'm just used to it, but I love it.
