Is This Normal?
Reason I ask is there seems to be "water in fuel" indicator problems on this board. My buddies 2002 250 does the same thing.
Thanks for the response. Its a brand new 04 250 Lariat Super Duty Crew Cab FX4. I think the build date is Nov 03...being new to the site and reading some of the posts, I'm getting kind of scared. I just purchased the truck 2 days ago for 38,000.
The water in fuel indicator only lights up when the glo plugs are warming up. As soon as the engine cranks its gone. Just wondering if its normal. This is my first truck...not to mention my first diesel.
Does the dealership automatically give you the most up to date flash when they prep it?
Anything, I need to keep an eye on or aware of? I am getting about 15 mpg driving around town. I was also thinking about getting the preditor or superchip after I get some milage on the truck. (The sales guy recommended "Hypertech" after 7000 miles).
Thanks again...any advice would be appreciated.

The water in fuel light is normal if it goes off when the engine starts (you let off the key) or at least mine does the same thing. You can crawl under it and drain the water in the seperator. You should do this once a month anyway. Water in diesel is a common problem so buy your diesel from a place that sells LOTs of diesel like a truck stop.
They probably won't reflash the truck unless it is acting up. Only let them reflash your truck as a last resort. A lot of dealers don't have this procedure down yet.
The Predator is great! Best money I ever spent! You should buy one now. No reason to wait. The predator makes a great truck fantastic! Like a rocket! You should buy it from the people who sponser this site (MotorHaven.com). They give great service. Just ask them for their best price. They can and will sell for less than they advertise. It will help the way your truck runs lot and the mileage a little. Enjoy your truck!
Thanks for the reply and the advice! After reading your post I will purchase the preditor! So its ok to use the preditor on a new engine then? Also is the preditor an actual chip that you put in the truck then program, or is it something you hook up to the factory chip and program? I am obviously an extreme newbee...will this be something I can do? and will I need to purchase anything else like all those guages? I'll call Motor Haven first thing monday!
...sorry if I sound ignorant, but where is the separator and what is the procedure for draining the water?

Look at your 6.0 Diesel owner's manual. The seperator is under and slightly forward of the driver's seat and bolted to the inside of the frame rail. It is also the mounting point of one of the two fuel filters that need to be changed every so often.
Don't worry about being ignorant, we all are about lots of things. We just have a few months head start on you. We are glad to be able to help. Someone helped all of us.

PS-I read a post on draining the water and someone recommended cutting the top off an old 2 liter so you have a wide opening and draining the water into that. Sounds good to me so that is the method I will try first.
