2-3 shifting problems

Alright folks, Exiting off the freeway the other day and pulling up to a light I noticed a spike in the rpm's. Now my truck won't shift from 2nd to 3rd or beyond. Everything else works as advertised. Everyonce in a while I can feel it try to shift at around 28rpm. I have read some of the previous posts and can't find any of the components in my haynes manual. Does this sound like a problem encountered by any of y'all. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.....95 F350 7.3 4x4 auto

change the fluids

When was the last time you changed and flushed the Tranny? sounds like it could be a plugged filter too.

Bbeck,
Let us know. That is probably the easiest and cheapest fix. Lets hope thats all it is. Make sure you pa attention to the color and smell of the fluid. If its brown or smells burnt you could have a smoked tranny too.

Well that didn't work, but it was worth a try. The fluid looked good, a little dark but nothing out of the ordinary, and the magnet in the pan had very little debris/crud on it. Not as bad as when my tranny went out before. I just had it rebuilt in sept. Any other suggestions. Another thing is that my O/D light is not flashing or staying on.

I wonder i the relay or button have gone out tricking the computer in to think you want the o/d off? I will try and think of something else. Sorry I couldn't help you>

try and remove the positive battery connectors. leave them off for about 10 to 15 minutes. this should reset the computer and it might help you out.

I believe I misspoke, when I said that the O/D light doesn't stay on I ment that it is not showing faults in that method. I tried disconnecting the cables for a while and that didn't work. I am going to take it in tomorrow, I'll let ya'll know how it turns out. Thanks for all the suggestions

Well 1700 later I have a rebuilt tranny. It was shot, I origionally had it fixed at cottman transmissions last January and then again in September. Upon removal they found that one of the studs on the torque converter was cut off, like with a torch. So I recommend everyone stay away from them. Because after talking with them and their corporate office they told me that they wouldn't earranty the tq con, even though they trashed it and lead to my newest problem. Well another lesson learned. Thanks for all the help.
