I installed an integral power steering box from a late '70s F150 into my '69 F100 4X4. There is a U-Joint in the shaft that is worn out. Is there a better after market shaft/U-joint that will work?
When I ran dirt track, I used a 3/4 in steering shaft with a u-joint in the middle. It worked great, and cost around 50 bucks for the u-joint.
If the stock u-joint is the one i'm thinking about, its splined on one end had a rag joint on the other end. I would suggest finding one of those in a junk yard or even trying to buy a new one from Ford. But if your good at rigging stuff and can weld decent, just replace the shaft and put an aftermarket steering u-joint in. A guy here in town thats I used to buy all my racing stuff from sells them for 50 bucks. Here is a link where you can buy them online for about 60.
