My 2000 F250 SD CC XLT has been on order for 3 months. I really don't expect it for another two months. This is my first Ford in a few years and also the first time ordering a new Ford. Can anyone out there tell me what I can expect from the dealer when it arrives? Am I going to be pressured into alot of extras that I don't need? I would like more than 3 year 36k warranty, but I really don't like the idea of buying additional warranty that replaces the factory warranty.
SinBin-
My husband and I have a 99 4x4 psd crew cab and we knew going into it that we wanted a better warranty than the one provided. I searched the internet for a better price on an extended warranty but i could not get any of the online co. to respond back to me. We have a friend that is a mechanic for Ford and in talking to him he said buying the extended warranty from Ford was the best thing we did. From what i understand you may have a problem getting ford to honor some of the aftermarket warranties. My husband and I decided on the 6 yr. or 72,000 miles- the cost of this through ford was $2,000.00. When your spending $37,000.00 whats another 2?
I purchased an after Ford warranty, from the Ford dealer that I purchased my truck from. It works like and insurance policy for the repairs, but I don't have to worry about a deductible. I've only had my '99 SD CrewCab for 10 months and coming up on 28,000 miles. I knew high mileage going in to the purchase and wanted to be safe on the payout of the truck.

My take on that - it is going to depend upon your salesperson. In my case, my guy called and told me my truck was in, it was ready, come and get it. When I got there, we went out looked over the truck, we took it for a drive, came back and signed the papers on the tailgate, I handed him a check and that was it. He offered nothing extra and said if I wanted to discuss anything to let him know and he would get me prices. It was about as painless as it can be when you are writing a check for $36k .
I probably am going to get Fords extended warranty but it is not one of those things where the only chance you have to buy it is the day you buy your vehicle.
From what I have seen from others and my dad on his F-150, you can purchase the extended warranty anytime right up to the 36,000 mile on the factory warranty.
