How long will it last?

How long would a inline six, that has been properly taken care, last?
Is there any thing i need to look for in the trucks(2x4 and 4x4)?
Are there very many recalls on any parts of the truck?
Thanks for all the help you may be able to give me!!

This is probably one of the most asked questions on this website. Kind of make you wonder why Ford couldn't keep it in production. I had an 1987 F150 with that inline six and a manual transmission. I bought it new and put 297,000 miles on it. I keep my trucks very well maintained, though. The landscape contractor I sold it to is still driving it as of last month.

The reason was it was becoming to hard to pass emmision standards. Plus to save money on production costs they went to the modular platform. Jury is still out for me on longevity of the new motors and rebuild issues

I thought that emissions might have something to do with it. It just seems like you see a lot of really high mileage old tech dinosaur engines, and while the 5.4 in my newer F150 is nice, I don't have that warm fuzzy feeling that I will own it as long as my old school F250. Not too surprising coming from someone that beats nails into lumber for a living.
