Here is a little secret to get around the shock. Hold onto a metal part of the truck (the outside of the door works) before putting your foot on the ground after your foot reaches the ground release the metal. This causes the spark to jump from your shoe to the ground instead of your finger to the door. Another safety tip (before fueling) take the fuel nozzle in one hand before placing it into the tank touch the vehicle with the other hand this grounds you the vehicle, and the nozzle. It causes the spark to jump from you to the truck insted of the fuel nozzle to the truck. Dont have a cell phone on or around you when fueling they produce bigtime static when the ring. hope this info is helpful Jerry United States Army Aviation Safety.
I will try this during the week. Today the humidity was over 80% and I still was zinged several times...
What you are wearing and what material your seat covers are makes a big difference with shock. I bet if you are wearing a cotton T-shirt and blue jeans you would have much lower probability in getting shocked.
I agree it does make a difference about clothes..............in my case I can be butt naked and still get zapped, on any car at any time, in any stituation.
In my house, I have had three phones that ended up accross the room becasue they have shocked my ear.......real bad.
Please let me know if this works for you guys. Johnsdiesel you are correct this does apply to Gasoline. Usually when I fill up there are gas pumps next to the diesel. all of the statistics I have seen of gas pump fires so far are women talking on cell phones or women that start pumping and get back into thier car while the gas is pumping. when they get out and reach for the nozzle the static that normally zaps me and you jumps from thier hand to the gas nozzle igniting the fumes. If you just touch a metal part of the car (not near the gas cap), and hold on until done refueling the disapates the static charge. Remember static is created by one object rubing against another ie, fuel moving throught the hose, you sliding off the seat or walking across your carpet. sorry about the long post. Jerry

Actually the cell phone is not the cause. Women are more likely to have this happen because they are more likely to get back in the car and "recharge" with static when they are filling up. Also, wearing nylons increases the probability. I'm assuming none of you guys wear nylons? The cell phone thing is one of those urban legends that has become mainstream "fact."
Thanks $trokin60, I tried your method today. I touched the metal of the door post just before stepping to the ground and not one zap today....as far as clothes, I am into comfort cotton with low % of artifical fiber...the 100%polyester of the 70's are long gone. As far as the seat cover, its leather. I will continue to verify the process.
have any of ya'll seen the MPEG video of the gal filling up her Jeep Gr. Cherokee and her static electricity lights her nozzle on fire? footage from gas station video camera. its awesome.
link to my email and send me a note. if you're on cable, or wanna receive a 1.7MB file download, lemme know. makes ya think.
I really get a jolt (unless it is raining) when getting out of my truck. What I do is while holding the metal part of one of the keys on my ring touch it to the door latch (which is bolted to the body) and watch the spark! For some reason you don't feel the shock as the static electricity goes to ground through the key.

Is that good for those programmed keys, probably reboots the key every time you get out of your truck
I have noticed I get zapped more since I got my 04 than any other vehicles. I get in and out of wifes Explorer and its not as bad. Probably my imagination.
