Disconnecting DRL

I have a 2001 Ford F250 SD. I was wondering how to disconnect the daytime running lights (DRL) ?

If you have a canadian truck (the VIN PLATE inside the drivers door post has lots of french words on it and says canada somewhere) then all you need to do is pop the hood, reach behind the driverside headlight and unplug the one wire going into a small metal cage. Just let the wire hang and your done.

If yuor lights have been on, that cage is HOT, so be careful not to burn yourself

If you have an american truck with the aftermarket DRL option, you have to pull a relay under the hood.

Do not pull any fuses as some might suggest. The one that runs the DRL's also runs your foglights if I ercal correctly.

I have an American truck. Do you know where the relay switch is and how do you disconnect it?

The below directions are for ADDING DRL's to an american truck. I would try REVERSING the directions to REMOVE the DRLS. You may need to come up with a jumper wire by the sounds of it.

***********************************
The resistor plugs into the two-wire harness right behind the driver's headlight under the hood. The relay replaces the single-wire loop plugged into a harness that runs to the existing relay block. Look to the right of the driver's side battery, just in from the fender. There is an existing relay box there with an empty location right next to it. The relay is about 2x4 inches and about 3 inches thick.

I have disabled DRL by pulling a fuse from the underhood fuse block. I don't remember which fuse but it was definitely in the underhood box.

Its a relay, all you do is unplug it. looks like a small 2" x 2" x 2" black cube with about 5 prongs that would plug into a socket. Stand with your stomach against the drivers side fender and there should be a couple of fuse blocks/relay blocks just to the right of your battery and in front of the brake master cylinder. They may have covers, and you'll need to open the covers to see the relays.

Now according to teh quote above, once you pull the relay, you MIGHT need to replace it with some kind of jumper wire. Possibly to make your fog lights work.
