ok, it seems like my 4wd only works in reverse, i dont know why, but im hoping it's just my hubs or i need to clean out my transfer case shift motor, what do u guys think?
quack head
I don't want to argue with you and tell you that you're wrong but this really seems impossible to me. Your transfer case should either engage or not . . . regardless of what your transmission is doing. To test it you might jack the rear end off the ground, unlock your hubs, and have a friend put it in gear, in 4wd to see if your front drive shaft is turning. But the forward or reverse tranny gear should have nothing to do with whether it will engage or not. FWIW those push button Ranger cases often have trouble with the solenoid that engages the 4x4. It may not be engaging at all.
well it just seems like that when i put in 4wd and go forward, my four whell drive wont engage, i can head the differential spinning but u can hear it not engaging to the hub cuz when it does engage its loud as hell, and when i put it in reverse, it doesnt spin, it engages and all 4 wheels spin
definately jack her up. Are you saying that the transfer case only engages in reverse? Like if you were to shift from reverse to first it would somehow slip out of gear? I would clean your hubs anyway, its always good to keep those suckers clean
well, im getting manual locking hubs on monday, so i dont think iw ill bother cleaning the hubs out, do you think the manual hubs will solve the problem??
they could. sounds like it could be your auto system, those things go bad easy! Stick with manual once u get em! you'll never turn back. sure its a pain in the butt to get out of yur truck and lock em when yur in mud or its cold and snowin out, but they are tuff and wont break on ya. once again, jack up yur truck and lock yur system in, and see what yur equipments doin under there. first see if yur axle is locked and movin, then might as well inspect yur other moving parts...d-shaft, t-case, etc. have fun with the new hubs
