found what im looking for i think, down by the shift linkage there is what looks like a nut with a threaded bolt? going through it. is this what i am looking for? cant seem to move either one though i didnt try real hard the threaded part is sqaure on the end, is this the band adjustment or not and what exactly can i do with it, i am trying to firm up the shifts. I have the green striped vacume mod, and replaced all the hoses if i cant get the shifts firmed up im gonna pull the tranny.
Does your transmissin have a shift kit installed installed? You should be able to adjust your modulator: remove the vacuum line, insert a small standard screwdriver and turn the screw in (clockwise)2-3 turns. This should raise the shift point of your transmission.
To adjust the band: loosen the nut, you will need a 3/8" square drive (8 point) socket for the screw, tighten the screw to 10 ft. lbs(120 in. lbs.), back off exactly 1 1/2 turns and tighten the nut while making sure that the screw doesn't turn.
A Transgo SK-6 kit is a good addition at $18 (bulkparts.com), You can also change the modulator to a black stripe version - that one will give you the highest shift points. Just a couple of things to consider before dropping the tranny.
So if I run the shift kit, black stripe vac mod, and adjust the band will I at least get a second gear chirp, or dare I say will it break loose when shifted hard?
