I've got a 2000 Explorer Sport with 51k miles on it (w/ auto transmission). The transmission has started dropping into first gear with a hard clunk when I come to stops. It also hesitates a bit when I put it into drive from park or reverse). There is no flashing overdrive light or any other indication of an error thrown off by the computer.
Is this something that can be fixed with a fluid flush and filter replacement? Obviously, I'm hoping I won't have to go the rebuild or replacement route.
Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.
Put a can of trans tune in it about 500 miles before your tranny fluid change, helps to clean things out. Try that, sounds like it might be the t/c going.
