I've heard of the Valve dropping problem, but only on the net. I know quite a few people with Hemi Rams, and none have experienced the problem. I suspect it is no more common than Fords equally disturbing spark plug blowing issues on the mod motors, of which I also know of only via the internet.

Poor kid, Dodge voided his warranty because they claimed he was racing, and they claimed the engine wasn't broke in yet, but it happened in the parking lot, no racing. So much for their best in class warranty. His parents weren't too happy when they saw the bill.

However, I have had first hand experience with Dodge automatic transmissions. My father's Dodge (now sold) went through its first at less than 10,000 miles.

The spark plug bull-crap is old news. It only affected the '98-99 engines.

If you read some of the other forums here, you'll see that V10's as new as 2001 have blown plugs. Just because it happened a couple years ago means it doesn't count? Only the Hemi isn't allowed to have a few problems?

Also, what do tranny's have to do with the Hemi engine and the discussion at hand?

If your transmission blew less than a year after it was bought you'd be mad too! That's why we stay away from Dodges. Daddy calls them toys meant for people with more money than sense.

Still has absolutley nothing to do with the Hemi's power. It is nothing more than your attempt to make Dodge look bad without staying on the topic at hand. I'd be willing to bet that the tranny was the old style tranny as well, not the new 5 speed auto used with the Hemi.

You don't build a reputation on pulling the rug out from your customers. Some warranty they claim. Dodge did that to us as well as the boy at school.

It is relevant to the Hemi. This transmission was behind a 318. If they can't handle a 318, they sure as hell won't hold up with a Hemi. I don't give a damn if it is a 5 speed.

Using your logic, Ford transmissions must suck too. I know of many Explorers that had bad tranny's. If they can't hold up behind a V6, they sure as heck won't hold up behind a V8 or V10 or diesel.

My logic is this. If it works, good, if not, then it I won't touch that model again. Your logic is that everything should be a common replacement item.

At least Ford backed up their problems the best they could. Dodge comes up with excuses to void the warranty.

Well, the Explorer tranny issue was a problem...but was cleared up years and years ago. I've never heard of the newer 1998-2004 trannys going bad. Same is true for Dodge, their auto. trannys ARE horrible. We've got one that's dead at 67K miles ourselves actually. But Dodge also has designed new seals and internals, and the new Dodge auto. trannys are not problematic anymore either. So let's focus on the engine comparison here...that's the interesting part.

My point exactly. The new 5 speed tranny's in the Dodges are entirely new, and have proven pretty reliable so far.

Hey EV2DEMO, have an address for the dyno you posted for the F150?
The only Dyno Dynamics I could find was an Australian site.

The Dodge you posted looks much better than the one at the jbaheaders website - more what would be expected from the Hemi.

The F-150 graph came from Air Raids site, and if I remember right, the Hemi graph camr from PHR's site.

Here are a few more graphs I've run across:

Hemi Ram:

Hemi Ram:

04 F-150 5.4:

Seems like the "disturbing" and "no torque" Hemi always makes more horsepower and torque than the 5.4. What gives guys?

5.4 VS 5.7

Heh I guess the "no replacement for displacement" rules still applies.

I agree with you there. The Lightning is a pretty bad truck with the old 2V 5.4. It ought to really move when it comes out with the new multi valve 5.4.
