I just got my 1999 250 SD CC V-10 on Monday. 20,000 miles. The best way to describe the sound coming out of the pipes is it sounds like my friends Cobra. The previous owner put some 33's on it and i'm not sure if he did something to the exhaust. It has 2 crome pipes exiting each side of the trailer hitch. Nothing inside the pipes, just the 2" pipe welded to the 3" crome extensions. Is this a normal sounding setup or a mod?
Thanks,
Rob
BTW I'll be listening for PS tomorrow morning. Anyone have experience with Mac Haik replacing V-10 engines?

It's definitely not normal sounding, nor is it normal at all. The factory setup is a single exhaust system (Y-pipe to cat to muffler to tailpipe, which is about 3 " in diameter, and exits behind the right rear wheel.)
Thanks for the reply Tom. I had some time to crawl underneath the back today. One of the rear hangers is not factory. I also took it to a muffler shop to confirm this. He recommended a Chevy factory type muffler with a 3" inlet and 2 2.5" outlets for $125. For around $200 he would put a factory setup back on it. I was also crawling underneath to install my spare tire. From the looks of the truck NEVER had one. No marks..nada. I also install my fake alarm system (blinking diode) and my fuel cut off switch. I did this on my 1990 F-150. I wire a switch into the inertia fuel cut-off switch. A rocker switch mounted in the bottom of the ashtray finishes it off. Even if they get in they'll never have time to find the bypass. A neat trick..don't tell anyone.
I also found out some good news reguarding all the PS talk. My V-10 was built on 4-28-1999. This puts me after the 4-15-1999 problem fix date. I also started the engine cold this morning. Quiet as a mouse at 20,450. Lots of great info here.
Congrats on your new truck! Are there no mufflers on this truck? Is it too loud for you? I would not recomend putting on an OEM type muffler. Use a performance muffler like Dynomax Race Magnum #17228 or Super Turbo #17776 from a-1performance.com, a Gibson or Flowmaster.
Thanks, well it's a little loud but i'm going to try it out for a while longer. Everyone else says it sounds "cool". Usually this is when the truck is idling, and yes it does sound like it's had some work done on it. But when driving it gets a bit loud as the truck shifts through the 4 speed auto. I also pick up some resinance (sp?) vibration to.
It does have a muffler on it. It's an oval, turbo looking thing with 1 in and 2 out. No markings indicating the type on either side. It's maybe 12 " long and 4" tall.
